PROGRAM THEMES

  • To use imaging to advance the understanding of cancer biology in the context of the complexities of an intact living organism.
  • To develop imaging technologies that non-invasively can detect and monitor disease status and the effects of drugs on diseased tissues, including assessing drug biodistribution and pharmacokinetics.
  • To develop imaging technologies aimed at exploiting (or developing) biomarkers for the earliest detection of developing cancers.
  • To translate imaging modalities to clinical application for assessment of utility in monitoring drug efficacy, tumor detection, and aiding in surgical procedures.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

The scientific focus and overall goal of the Cancer Imaging initiative is to promote the discovery, refinement and clinical applications of cellular, molecular, radiologic and other imaging technologies for the benefit of understanding cancer biology, and assessing cancer therapy for the present or future benefit of the cancer patient. Some investigators lead innovative Phase I and Phase II clinical trials with novel agents and technologies aimed at various unmet clinical needs. The roster also includes faculty that may not be involved with a clinical trial but are developing novel tools and imaging probes that serve to fill the discovery pipeline and will be translated to cancer patients in the future. These technologies will include novel ways to image biochemical pathways and disease, ways to image drug efficacy, and technologies to non-invasively image pharmacokinetics and in vivo drug distribution, among others, via in-silico, in-vitro, and/or in-vivo models of disease.
