Multimethod Cancer Outcomes Research

The mission of the Multimethod Cancer Outcomes Research Shared Resource is to connect people, organizations, and data to advance cancer research on complex multifactorial cancer control problems.

Services

SERVICE/EXPERTISEDESCRIPTION
Behavioral and outcome measurement Select and adapt measures; Develop new measures; Evaluate measure performance: reliability, validity, responsiveness
Development and ongoing engagement of diverse community research partners Facilitate access to health systems, networks of clinical practices and patients, and community organizations
Qualitative and Mixed Methods Study design and sampling, development of interview and focus group guides; Qualitative data analysis
Multilevel intervention design and implementation science Study design, implementation strategy, implementation assessment measurement
Analyzing, linking and geo-mapping public health and healthcare system databases Access to relevant data, linking multiple data sources to inform context (ie. social, neighborhood, environmental, policy), data analysis
Computational modeling and systems science approaches to cancer prevention, control and disparity reduction   Identify appropriate model types, specifying model structure, determining data needs, and choosing appropriate computing platforms & programming approaches

Innovation

Fostering innovation at the intersection of:
  • Qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Population and individual data
  • Clinical and public health
  • Behavioral, biological & environmental determinants of health
  • Epidemiology and simulation modeling

Key Databases

DATABASESOURCEDESCRIPTION
Multimethod Cancer Outcomes Research Measures MCOR The Multimethod Cancer Outcomes Research Measures database contains a searchable library of survey instruments relevant to cancer prevention and control.
Ohio Cancer Incidence Surveillance System Ohio Department of Health Incident cases of cancer among residents of the state of Ohio since 1992. Provides data on demographics and tumor characteristics. Identifiers make it possible to geocode and link to US Census data and to other data sources (eg, Medicaid, Medicare).
Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program Ohio Department of Health Women screened through the Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. Provides data on tests performed through the program.
Uniform Data Source (UDS) Health and Human Services Clinical quality indicators and practice characteristics for Federally Qualified Health Centers in the U.S. 2011-2014.
Quit Line use data Ohio Department of Health Intake and use characteristics for Ohio 2012-2016.
Medicaid and Medicare data Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Data may be obtained for select groups of patients (eg, patients identified from the Ohio Cancer Incidence Surveillance system) to study patterns of cancer care and outcomes.
Death certificate data Ohio Department of Health All deaths among residents of the state of Ohio. In addition to patient identifiers, the date and cause of death can be used to study overall and disease-specific survival.
Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Hospital discharge data, 1988-2013, National Inpatient Sample, and State Inpatient Database for several states. Informs on surgical procedures and outcomes in cancer patients.
