This training program provides support for predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees in cancer research. The focus of research in the laboratories of the faculty at Case Western Reserve University and the Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation is on fundamental questions of immediate relevance to cancer biology and treatment. The cancer biology focus is organized according to membership of each faculty member in one of two basic research programs in the Cancer Center: the Molecular Basis of Cancer and the Cell Death Regulation Program. Each program is composed of interdisciplinary groups of investigators and fosters interdisciplinary/collaborative cancer research. This structure provides an outstanding training environment for predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees as it emphasizes interdisciplinary and collaborative research directly relevant to cancer.
For all trainees who participate in this Training Program, the goal is to provide an outstanding training opportunity that nurtures individuality and creativity through an intensive laboratory research experience that culminates in first-author trainee publications in outstanding scientific journals, as well as presentation of findings at premier national/international cancer meetings. Each doctoral trainee is strongly encouraged to apply for postdoctoral training awards from the NCI or other agencies (e.g., American Cancer Society, Department of Defense, Leukemia Society of America).
Pre- and postdoctoral trainees will participate in a weekly Cancer Genetics and Cancer Biology Journal Club, a weekly Cancer Center Seminar, and a special session at the annual Cancer Center Retreat that features trainee presentations.
For seminar schedules, please see the Events page.
